The following program was created by the Oregon Section of the American Institute of Hydrology

An Internet program to introduce how the Columbia River is utilized and monitored

Look south from the Water Resources Education Center, toward the Columbia River. Better yet, walk outside and watch the river up close. You are located at river mile 111 -- the distance from Vancouver downstream to the river's mouth near Astoria. To reach the other end of the Columbia River, you will have to travel 1,100 miles upstream to the headwaters in British Columbia.

What do you know about the Columbia River and the 258,000 square miles of land that it drains? .... only a drop in the bucket? We have put together a good starting place to assess information from federal, state, and local agencies and other groups who monitor, study, and use the watershed. From this Internet program, you can:

  • tap into real-time data, such as the current water level in Vancouver,
  • find out about the water quality of the river,
  • look at historic fish, dam, and water records,
  • forecast the weather and water supply,
  • jump off to other river links and more!
